We stayed at Burra Camp for two nights which cost $30 per night. Burra is a very pretty town with really old historic buildings such as the Paxton Cottages, which were built for miners and their families to encourage them to come into the town and work for the mine. You can see one part of the 33 cottage complex with Ross "posing" on the veranda. We went for a walk and had a look at the town, but the cottages impressed me the most as they were built in the mid 1800s and are still being used as accommodation for school groups etc. In the photos you will be able to see how we had to cross the Murray by ferry to Burra. It was fun and something we did not expect.
We then moved on to Iron k*** which is a BHP mining town going to rack and ruin. Fees there were by donation in an honesty box. We donated $5.00 as no water or power and one toilet, better than nothing though. So sad to see a town that was once thriving reduced to what it is now.
Next stop today 3rd June is the town" Lock" on the Eyre Peninsula. We were going to give the peninsula a miss, but as there was a turnoff on the highway we changed our minds, so here we are in the park at Lock, very simple, but water, electricity and toilets so it's all good. On the way here the side of the highway was fenced. We thought you might like to see how fencing is done when it's a long way to cart poles; just use the wood available.
