Today we left Delhi and our bug filled room and headed to Mandawa in Rajasthan. We have hired a car and a driver (Inder) for the next three weeks as we have been advised by many people that this is the best way to travel here. On route we have met other people who have done the same and are staying in the same hotels. Our drive here took about 7 hours. It was an interesting drive, first of all we stopped off at our drivers house. He invited us in to meet his family. His house was tiny, only two rooms with a single bed that was so hard. He introduced us to his wife and five children and offered us some chai. Like many other Indians, Inder chews tobacco and then leans out of the window to spit whilst navigating the chaotic roads. At first we found it disgusting but now we're use to it.
Along the way we drove through villages, there were no motorways and the roads where horrific. We noticed the livestock change throughout the drive. At first people were using cows to pull carts, which then changed to horses and then changed to camels. At one point there was a herd of bulls up ahead and suddenly one started to charge us, we all panicked but luckily at the last minute the bull turned and went past us. We enjoyed the drive seeing all the little villages but our bottoms didn't.
So we have arrived in Mandawa, the manager of the hotel upgraded us to the honeymoon suit which I have to say is an incredible change, the picture is taken on our mezzanine and we'll upload a video to show you.
We got a walking tour of the town by a young guy who works at the hotel, it's a very pretty old town full of old haveli's, some we were able to look round, they were huge with pretty paintings covering the walls. It was nice walking around the narrow streets at sunset, and popping into the odd shop here and there.
Anyway we are so excited to be in Rajasthan, tomorrow we will be heading to Bikaner which will be a four hour drive.
