Tuesday night before we caught our overnight bus we took a walk down to the palace as the festival had started. The palace was lit with thousands of lights, it was breath taking.
After another overnight bus journey we arrived in Hampi. We took a walk down to The Mango Tree and had breakfast. The place is amazing as you sit facing the river and mountains. It's so peaceful. You sit on mats on the floor with lowered tables to eat.
After breakfast we decided to take a walk around the city of ruins, it is incredible! There are mountains made up of boulders as far as the eye can see. We took a 2k walk down to the Royal Centre, along the way stopping off to look at the many temple ruins that date back to the 1400's.
There are loads of monkey's here, one even tried to steal Kate's bottle of water as we walked around the Virupatsha temple. There was also a huge elephant that they keep in the temple grounds.
In the evening we went to a roof top bar where they had cushions to lay on, it's a good place to chill and have a few drinks.
This morning we walked down to The Mango Tree for breakfast. As we were walking along the river, we saw that they were washing the elephant from the temple. We were wondering how they got him down the steep slopes down to the river but we then saw the trail. It was obvious the elephant had had a big dinner the night before.
This afternoon we are going to visit the monkey temple and see some more elephants. We have been advised to take bananas for the monkey's, they have been known to attack people who do not have food for them!!!!
