We arrived in Bikaner on Tuesday, we went straight to the fort and bought the audio tour. It was an amazing fort, we learnt about the Maharaja's that have lived their and what the different area's of the fort was used for. You're always trying to imagine what it would have been like when the Maharaja was there. Like most of Rajasthan, there are no more Maharaja's, the cities are government run, the Maharaja' lost there power.
A little later in the day we asked our driver to drop us in town so we could have a walk round. The market was mad, so many people and stalls selling all sorts. At one point we wanted to cross over the railway lines, the barriers were down as a train was coming so we waited, which apparently is not what the locals do. They just walk under the barrier (or slide their motorbikes under), Indians in some aspects of life are very impatient people. Then once the train had gone past they don't wait for the barriers to raise, instead they cause a massive pedestrian traffic jam while the police just stand there blowing their whistle which people just seem to ignore, it was quite entertaining to watch.
Whilst walking around a tramp came out of nowhere and screamed in Pete's face, which in turn made Pete jump and scream back...much to the amusement of Kate and others around. We decided to head back to the hotel via tuk tuk, on route passing a man lying in the street covered in wounds and hundreds of flies, we're pretty sure he was dead!
After a very bumpy ride (which you can see from the video) we arrived back at the hotel in one piece.
