Today we are headed for Split, Croatia – it was recommended to us by the Dutch couple we were having dinner with last night. Originally, we planned to heading to Zadar but we ended up heading to Split instead. On our way out of Bakar: We were both enjoying the amazing ocean views - you never knew what was around the corner to take a pic of...that Ros missed our turn off and realised the GPS had been telling us to make a U turn for 3km!!! …we managed to make a U turn and now we’re on the right path! The beginning of our leg to Split was very slow…a lot of traffic! We found a policeofficer directing traffic around this round about! Fuel, chain lube and tyre pressure stop! Fuel is incredibly cheap here…check it out…102Kuna = 13.50 Euros (we usually pay around 20 Euros for a full tank of fuel) On our way again: The water was stunning! We noticed a lot of hitch hikers around here too …and into the hills we head… Nice and windy… We went past a lot of little stalls selling what appeared to be honey and some with cheese also! We were a little thirsty so we stopped at this little café in the middle of nowhere! On the road again.. The scenery around us changes so quickly sometimes…this part reminded us of dessert! Fuel and food stop at a random roadside services place! On the road again!: 38 degrees!! Fuel stop! Ros has been getting into a habit of giving the bike a quick wash with the window washer stick thing....and this time there were 2 girls standing around the petrol station - but they didn't help us fuel up....Ros was doing her thing of washing the bike and one of the girls grabbed the washing stick from the bucket when Ros put it back temporarily...soon after we realised the girls are window washers and we were using their equipment!!! Ros – and her selfies! Split: The traffic light intersections here are easy to miss…if you look too far ahead rather than what is directly in front of you – the lights are high up….Pol had issues seeing them sometimes! Somewhere in Split – we found parking! Ros is sticking her tongue out at the 1200 implying that our 700 beast is so much better! Now…to find accommodation! There wasn’t a café around which had WIFI so we had to go to a restaurant…and we felt obliged to order food (but we weren’t hungry as we had lunch not long before this!) Pol did some blogging – catching up with blogging while Ros found accommodation Check out how the cars are parked here – on the sidewalk!! On our way to our accommodation: Traffic light intersection again!! We found accommodation in the old town of Split – near the water. No lift…and 3rd floor…heavy panniers and topbox! Check out the bathroom wall and door – all glass!!!!! Foyer – boutique hotel! Beach time! The lady at reception told us that if we wanted a fairly quiet beach – we should travel 5km along the coastline..so this is what we did: We spotted a family on the way…check out the kid with the bicycle helmet on! One beach we found – the carpark is ridiculous…so we headed out of there! A couple of K’s up the road we found some parking and hoped for the best… Abseling territory – to get to the rocks below and maybe some beach!!!... Ros…making her way down…very slippery at times… Rock beach style….Adriatic sea below! Slippery part…We hoped the branches held us..and they did! We got there…now to navigate the sharp rocks and find deep enough water to get into!!!... Ros went first….Pol slowly followed…with trepidation…until she saw a crab… After some gentle coaxing by Ros…Pol went in… with help from Ros… First time in the Adriatic Sea! It’s warm! We managed to get back on the rocks unscathed…to dry off… Crabbies! Then…a little rock climbing back to the top to get to our bike and back to the hotel! Dinner time…! Pol found a restaurant on Tripadvisor and surprised Ros… On the way to the restaurant in the main town – a few buskers with guitars and digeridoos…and a big crowd! This water fountain randomly started flowing overhead as we were walking under it! We noticed there were a lot of casinos around here!! This was a cool little restaurant with a nice garden and a bit of history to it (beginning of the 20th century – a famous architectural building with spacious gardens). The waiter we had was super friendly but may have been new to is job as we were at the restaurant a total of about 2 hours from start to finish as it took a while for anyone to take our order and collect our plates! After dinner Ros found her dream bike– one of those 3 wheel car/motorbike…things…Pol promised to buy her one when back in Perth and that we should leave. Ros reluctantly agreed. Wed night at around 10pm Our innovative clothes drying technique – of many We didn't get to experience the islands of Croatia but at least we got to taste the Adriatic Sea and have a swim.
