RolPol
An early morning start – today we plan on crossing into Croatia but before we do that… We booked a local private trail ride through the Slovenian countryside on a local breed of horse: the Lipizzan. The way the owner (Irena) trained these horses was without a bit (which is standard for horses to wear for control)- just a bridle. These horses are super sensitive to body movements of the rider and can also be easily scared. Pol was a little tentative but had a quick ride in the arena to see if it was ok... Pol was reasonably confident with riding these horses and Ros was a little nervous… …so Ros stayed and played with the kittens. After a quick coffee with Irena, we were on our way again – heading through the Slovenian seaside towns: Until we found a little seaside town (when we both got a little hungry)…Piran: (Check out the barnacles on this boat!) We had a quick drink and then headed for lunch on our way back to the bike (we had to walk a while before reaching the port from where we parked!) On our way into Croatia: BORDER CROSSING! Pol had to get off the bike to grab the passports out of our topbox and jump back on the bike so we could give them to the border guard – the border guard took our passports, had a brief look at us (we both still had our helmets on), stamped our passports and we were in Croatia! How easy is that!!!? Croatia: Toll Road! Problem: we did not have any Croatian Kuna currency and previously on toll roads, our credit card was not accepted…. This time…luckily it was! This toll road cost us 65 euro cents! We are on our way to the seaside…somewhere….we have not planned exactly where yet… …until we stumble upon this view….so we decided to go down and investigate… …found a local café – and not searching for accommodation (well – Ros is!). We asked locals and a guy came back with 500kuna offer for an unknown apartment he was going to show us... We decided against it. ..this is the accommodation we found (only 40 euros) – we paid for what we got though…no air conditioning...wet bed sheets...dodgy bathroom covered with hair….no vacuuming on the carpet...our shower towels were hand towel size... We could go on!! But we had a stunning view! Heading out to dinner: This is such a small little harbour town that it didn’t take us long to find somewhere to eat… …though we didn’t end up taking any pics as we got talking to a Dutch couple who we saw in our hotel earlier and spent most of the evening talking with them before heading to bed!!!! We had a suspicious feeling they didn’t want their photo taken with us due to a passport kerfuffle in the hotel earlier – they didn’t want the hotel to copy their passports (according to some Dutch law!!!). We had planned for an early night after such a long day, but it ended up being later than we thought!!
