Fraser Island Part 3
Well, we got up early on the Sunday and everyone had a fiull Englisg cooked breakfast which kind of stressed me & Iain as we needed to pack up the tents and 4wd and get off before high tide as we had a long drive along the beach.
We were late setting off and the tide was coming in - we got so far along the beach and another 4wd said you can go any further as there's no beach left so we had to go up the sand dunes an inland and then found our way back on the beach where hard sand was still left. Iain was mega stressed as he was driving and thought we weren't going to make it to Lake Wabby before the tide cam in. We had to make it there as it's the only place that has tracks to get back to the ferry to get home that night.
Afer a stressfull and bumby 45mins we arrived at Lake Wabby which was lovely - huge sand dunes everywhere with this Lake in the middle - the water was cold though so only Iain & Damien went in for a swim.
We then went off inland and up and down go very steep hills - 1 of which we got stuck on going up it - a bit of an experience trying to get out of the sand going up the way but we managed it!! We arrived at Lake MacKenzie in time for a picnic lunch. Lake Mackenzie was gorgeous and had a little island that you could swim across too - gorgeous white beaches and clear freshwater - we didn't have very long here tho as we had to get to the barge for 3:30 as it was the last one of the day - we could have spent all day here.
After a quick swim and some photos we did our last drive to the barge where we got a hot chocci and headed back to the mainland of Hervey Bay.
We then had another 4 hor drive (Damien driving) to get home - we were shattered so had a quick chinese and went to bed.
It was a fab weekend and we enjoyed every minute of it.
Will blog about this weekend later in the week,
Hope all is well back home,
C xx
