Well Hello to you all.
Before I start to jibber jabber about Fraser Island part 2, I would just like to inform you all that you may have missed some of our photos and blog's from the previous week. When C and I add new blogs and pictures it's always the newest that you will see first, so you need to go into a drop down menu for the previous blogs you may have missed. One that I think everyone missed is the Glass House Mountains. Have a look, as this was amazing!!
Right now for Fraser Island part 2!!!
We got up at 6 in the morning and got showered with our $1 coin that gave us 3 minutes of hot water. Charlottes $1 seemed to give her a cold shower so she was screaming and I could hear her from the gents. We didn't have time for brekkie as we needed to head to India head (Mountain in the Ocean) and Champagne pool (Rock pools in the Ocean) before high tide came in.
I drove most of Friday and got the knack of it so was asked to continue due to the time constraints. It was nerve racking watching the tide come in further and further inland with little hard sand to drive on. I had to drive through soft sand, which was uphill, not easy but the ringmac coped!!!We were so focused on getting through the sand and beating the tide we missed the car park bay for India head so ended up going straight to Champagne pool first. The rock pools were cool but rough due to the waves smashing in on them so we didn't venture in for a swim. Instead decided to go on a trek to another point on the Island called Waddy Point.
We had to do this by foot and ended up walking up 4WD soft sand hilly roads. After 40 mins we stopped a 4WD coming down the road and asked how long there was to go until Waddy point. They said another 10K, we thought the were exaggerating so continued, when the second 4WD came past we asked again and got the same answer, so they allowed us to jump into their open back boot. They were both drinking XXXX beer and there was fishing rods etc in the back. We had to hold on for our lives. I had Charlotte locked between my legs and I was holding onto a bar above my head to ensure we weren't thrown out when the large bumps came. Not our best Idea!!!
We got back to the start and were determined to reach Waddy Point so we climbed across rocks and hills. There was slippy rock's due to the high waves smashing off the rocks and there was also sections of long grass. We were going into the unknown with dangerous or poisonous creatures like dingos, snakes, lizards, stingers (similar to jelly fish) and tics.We thought we would be able to see from Waddy point another ship wreck, but we couldn't although the views along the island were cool.On the way back C and I went back down the steep track and came across white dingo poo. So we kept a look out in case they were around to attack us.
Once we got on the rocks charlotte was walking in front of me and took a step down to what she thought was solid ground between rocks, as she stepped down she started to disappear into this hole of sea water and stingers. I went white, C was screaming and trying to wriggle out. I put out a hand and we managed to drag her out. She never got a fatal sting so we were all good. Ringmac saves the day!!!!
Once we got back we had lunch on the hilltop above Champagne pool. It was really nice but we had to eat fruit that was going off. We ate it anyway to give us some fluid. We headed off back to India head to see the sea life from top off the mountain. The view again was amazing. When we looked back inland we saw these beautiful sand dunes as far as the eye could see.
I gave the keys then to Damien to head to the next stop, he was nervous about the soft sand and within seconds my co-pilot got stuck in the sand. I had to rescue the day again and take over the wheel and get us out of the soft sand and on our way. Ringmac to the rescue once again!!!
We stopped of at the wreck again for some more photos while C and I went to the waste dumping ground as our black bags were getting smelly. This big truck never noticed me and nearly took me and one of the buckets to empty. I gave him the Mac forwn!!!
We ventured to the sand stone cliffs called the Pinnacles. They were really cool but we were not allowed to climb them as there had been a landslide and cracks had opened up. I went and jumped down to hide in the cracks but didn't realise it was hard rock so I hurt my ankles.
That was our day of travelling over so we headed back to camp and had a BBQ at night in the dark with torches. We had beer, wine and vodka. Occtavio our Italian flatmate who turned 29 that week sung us an Italian song where we had to down shots of vodka to. Good fun!!!
We persuaded the girls to come down to the beech as the boys had done it the previous night. You can't see anything until you hit the beach, as the moonlight is your only source of light. The sound of the waves, the stars in the clear sky and the quietness was amazing. It was worth it even though we could have come across the wildlife.
C and I headed back and got a bit lost as our torch battery died on us. We seen a small light and headed for it in the pitch black. Eventually we found our way to the tent.
We had a good night sleep and a full English BBQ breakkie in the morning, packed the camping gear away and headed off on the Sunday for our next adventure. Charlotte will take it from here.Bye bye for now!!!
