Update from Ellie…. Apparently they knew the Viking settlement was there. It was not a surprise.
We took one last walk on the York wall and then through the city before we had to catch our noon train to London. The trip to was smooth and we arrived around 2:00 pm. I do appreciate the ease of train travel in this country.
Once in London we found our hotel, which is situated right near the British Museum, North of the River Thames. We got settled and then made our way to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery. The Women’s European soccer tournament is currently going on in England so they have set up a fanzone in the Square. They have all these soccer themed booths and games set up. We walked around there for a little it and then went into the National Gallery with its Leonardo’s, Michelangelo’s, and all these other famous artists. Kristin and the boys stayed and played in the fanzone.
Everything closed up at 6:00 pm so we walked over to Chinatown and found this great restaurant that sat the 11 of us almost immediately. We were shocked. The food was great and we left full. The claim to fame of that restaurant was that its predecessor was the Chinese restaurant name-checked in Warren Zevon’s song “Werewolves of London.”
After dinner we walked to Piccadilly Circus where we split up and my parents, Kristin, and the boys went back to their hotel and we walked down to the River Thames. We ended the night by taking the tube back to our hotel.
Tomorrow: Boat ride on the River Thames.
