Arrived in Christchurch pretty late, after going thru passport control and quarantine we finally got to the hostel at 130am. Stayed at Base Backpackers in the centre. Not the best hostel we've stayed in unless you enjoy mingling with drunk 18 year olds! It was a nice change to have to put a jumper on as the temperature was at least 10 degrees cooler than when we left Melbourne.
After having a sleep we got up to explore Christchurch and were left slightly disappointed. Its meant to be one of the largest cities in New Zealand but we both couldnt really see how. The central square around the Cathedral is very pretty, with lots of cafes situated around the square and street entertainers, but other than that we couldnt really find much to do. However, our second day there was abit more uplifting when we found the botanical gardens and the arts centre. The gardens were lovely witht he River Avon running through them. Lots of people kayaking and punting on the river. The weather turned beautiful in the afternoon so we sat on the river bank in the sun watching the ducks.
Bit of a slow start to our time in New Zealand but start our Kiwi Experience tomorrow so im sure we'll soon start seeing lots of amazing things.
