Our Kiwi Experience driver picked us up along with Max (great guy) at 8am from Christchurch and explained that he would be taking us to meet the big coach in Murchinson, on the west coast of the South Island. We would get ther by travelling through the beautiful Arthurs Pass. The scenery started almost immediately. Rolling hills, rich green grass, clear blues rivers and lots of sheep and cows. It was stunning. Our first stop was St James' Walkway in the Buller District. Only a short walk through some wooded areas and past a small pond but we got some fab photos of the hills covered in low cloud. We then stopped at a place called Maruia Falls which was quite special, some mad men were kayaking down the waterfalls!
Met our group at 130pm and headed to Westport which was to be our stop for the night. The Buller River was very pretty, llined with pale grey rocks and pebbles. We decided against any activities on the river as we were waiting to hike the glacier and skydive. Checked into 'Bazils Hostel' in Westport where the owner gave us a double room with a TV for the same price as a dorm as she had run out of dorm beds- very lucky (unfortunately not much on TV that night so Ben had to endure 3 hours of Reeses Witherspoon in Vanity Fair- he loved it really)
Not too much to see in Westport, quite a few shops but as it was a sunday evening when we got there, most of them were closed. However it was a nice place to catch up on some sleep in preperation for our party night at the Poo Pub the following night.
