We got to Queenstown in the afternoon after stopping at the Kawarau Bungy (neither of us decided to jump though) on the way into town. Last day traveling with our Kiwi Bus group so we stopped at the lake and had a hilarious group picture taken. Ten of the boys lay on the grass and the rest of us just piled on top-50 of us in total, with Scotty our driver on the side with his pants down (only discovered that when the picture was developed!!!Checked into the Discovery Lodge on the main street in Queenstown, ok place, rude staff but after 7months of traveling, we are pretty much used to it. That night we all met in the hostel bar- Altitude, for happy hour. We all had a good few drinks before heading to World Bar, where we continued drinking. There were 100 free drinks to the first 100 people with the secret word ?Spongebob Squarepants?. By the time we got to the bar, everyone was quite merry and so most people had forgotten the word so a group 9of us, made the most of the free drinks, hoarding them under the table. This was the night where Ben, Craig and Elliot formed ?Team Beer?. Had a good laugh, perfect way to say goodbye to everyone. The next day we both had a slight hangover but we weren?t prepared to let it spoil our day. We met ?Doctor Helen? and decided to go for what we thought was a nice relaxing walk. We were wrong! If I had known what we were going to climb, I would have prepared better with more water, food and trainers rather than flip-flops (shouldn?t have really attempted it with a hangover either!) We had chosen to do the Queenstown Hill walk, which in the guide books is classed as MODERATE!? Ben and Helen said it was a tiring walk but I really struggled and I?d say I?m a lot fitter than most. It was so steep, but definitely worth it. We got to the basket of dreams, which is about 20 minutes from the summit and just lay in it. The weather was boiling and the sun made the views perfect. It was so peaceful. We walked the last 1km to the summit and the views were breathtaking. Had 360 degree view of the Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Queenstown Bay and Lake Wakatipu. The walk back was a lot easier through shaded forest. At time I felt awful but looking back we had a great time. We spent the next few days just lazing around, sitting by the lake, shopping, and planning what to do next. Unfortunately I got ill with a cold and so Ben spent a few days looking after me and putting up with my moaning. We checked into the Lakeside YHA for a few good nights sleep as the party atmosphere at Discovery Lodge wasn?t doing much for my recovery. First time in a YHA as so far we?ve tended to avoid them. Been under the impression that they are full of old people (which they are) but they are clean and comfy and good for some peace and quiet. We had 2 more nights in the YHA after returning from Milford Sound. We both loved Queenstown as it has so much to offer. The scenery is amazing. Extreme sports in the summer and ski-ing in the winter. We were a bit gutted here though as we left one of our photo CD?s in the computer and nobody was kind enough to hand it in, so sorry that there are no pictures for some of our journal entries.
