Monday 8th December was an early start with a 06.40 pick up. A short drive to the Saigon River and then a 75 minute speed boat ride to the Cu Chi tunnels so you are not stuck in the early morning grind to work.
The real bonus was that there were only the two of us on the trip and getting there so early meant we were the first people through the door, no one else came about one hour.
The tunnels were amazing and so small. Dave went through one of them but was on hands and knees.
The tunnels stretch for 250km and were dug by hand, the US soldiers didn't stand a chance really. The tunnels were originally started because of the French occupation. We think it was probably one of the best excursions so far and this helped us understand the nature of the conflict. On the way to lunch we stopped at a cricket farm where we tried the local delicacy fried cricket, very tasty!! The trip was completed with a great lunch in a truly authentic Vietnamise restaurant. Great day.
