We left our great hosts Tom & Donna at Copeton Dam early Sunday morning. We filled our water tanks in Inverell before making our way to Moree. We were very surprised at how much cropping is done in this area. Moving north through Mungindi, Thallon to St George is really interesting. In what appears to be the outback, huge catchments of water can be seen everwhere. Cotton is the predominant industry but wheat is also grown on a large scale. Sheep and cattle grazing still exist. Grapes, onions and garlic are also grown as due to water availability horticulture has increased. At Mungindi we stopped for lunch at the famous One Ton Post. The One Ton Post is the original survey peg errected by surveyor JB Cameron. It markes the end of his three year survey of the QLD / NSW border and the 29th parallel "degree of latitude" from Cameron's Corner to the Barwon River. The One Ton Post was placed by JB Cameron exactly where it sits today in October 1881.
St George was a really interesting town. The mighty Balonne River runs through the centre of town. It reminds me of the Murray River. Pleasing to see water skiing is done on the river.
