From St George we thought we would save some time to get to Mitchell. Instead of going through Roma on the highway we took a secondary road. We had 200km to drive. 50km along the carnage of dead kangaroos were unbelievable. Dead roos were on the road every 100m. Other roos just stood lining the sides of the road as they picked at roadside grass. Mandy was driving and slowed down and was taking care. Around 150km in and close to our free camp it happened. Out of nowhere a large roo bounced straight into our windscreen. There was a loud explosion as the roo hit. Mandy did well to stop the car and van without leaving the road. The kids were in tears and Mandy and I were covered in shardes of glass. Luckily everone was okay. We cleaned up as much glass as possible and we decided to limp the 50km into town. It was getting dark and vision through the shattered window was next to nothing. I could only drive very slowly. At around 6:00pm we arrived at Mitchell and checked into the caravan park. We will have to see what can be done with the car in the morning.
