The kids were up early and keen to have one last swim before we set off. We left our overnight stop and headed south toward Rockhampton, stopping at Capricorn Caves around lunch.
The ancient limestone caves offer more than 1.5km of passages to explore. We chose to do a guided tour which took about an hour. The highlight was the Cathederal Cave where they do a sound and light show. The cave is set up as a chapel and many people get married in it. There was a wedding happening after our tour. Sitting in this cave listening to the song "Hallelugah" whilst watching the light show was amazing. The cave boasts better natural acoustics than the man made Sydney Opera House.
After a late lunch we headed to Rockhampton and then south west across a mountain range to a small area called Goovigen. We headed to farm and met an elderly couple, Peter and Betty. They had been cattle farming in the area most of their lives. Their son now runs the farm but they still live on it. Peter is into Napier vintage cars. We checked out his 1911 Napier. Peter now 87 doesn't get out in it much anymore. We picked up a part for my Dad's Napier before heading into Goovigen to the showgrounds to camp for the evening.
The weather has been terrific, a lovely 28 degrees today.
