We packed this morning, and were out of Monachyle Mhor by 8.15am (after paying 16 pounds for a week's electricity!!)
We drove down to England and over to the coast. Luckily the tide was out and Holy Island was accessible across the causeway (10.30am - 5pm). We drove over to Lindisfarne Castle, which wasn't open, but we were able to walk all around it. After that we went to Lindisfarne Priory - it was really large in its day. All very impressive. The causeway gets covered with up to 5.7 metres of water at high tide! We all enjoyed Holy Island and Lindisfarne.
We then drove down to Choppington to Nana and Pop's church. Unfortunately it was locked. We went into Morpeth, but they've only been in the Registry Office for 3 years, so that wasn't where my great grandparents were married.
We still had a bit of light so we drove on in search of Hadrian's Wall. We were pleased to come across some at Heddon-on-the-Wall (the girls were very excited - there was a horse in the paddock opposite and they fed our last 2 apples to it). The wall was quite well preserved there. We drove along the road next to the wall for a while and had a look at it, then retraced our steps and headed through Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (and saw the miniature Sydney Harbour Bridge) to our Travelodge Forte motel. We had dinner at the Little Chef, and then watched The Avengers.
