So, on the morning of the Melbourne Cup we ate a fine breakfast down by the other pool - sorry I forgot to take my phone, will try to remember to take pics tomorrow. We leisurely readied ourselves for a day's outing, then headed off to Mossman for the preferred petrol. Then we climbed once again to the Atherton Tableland - this time the northern end and a much easier climb I must say. We stopped first off at the Golden Drop Winery, after spotting some emus on the road, where we tasted many versions of mango wines and ordered some to be sent home (we have no room in our carry-on luggage). The lady running the tasting room was most friendly and informative. We then continued on down past Mareeba to the Mount Uncle Distillery where we saw a wallaby bound across the road as well as many domestic peacocks, and then shared a $10 paddle of 4 tasting glasses of gin, 2 different rums and a single malt whisky, all distilled on the premises. They also do a vodka. We had a delightful pizza for lunch at the restaurant in their car park, and then retraced our steps back to Mareeba and Coffee World where we paid to have tastings of many different coffees, chocolates and liqueurs, as well as viewing a very extensive and well organized collection of coffee paraphernalia. There are 3 coffee plantations nearby but at the end of it all just elected to return to our suite at Port Douglas, arriving back just before 5. We watched a bit of Telly, had an evening swim in the pool then enjoyed our finger food dinner on our balcony. Very nice indeed!! We then
