Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning when we woke we were already docked in Brisbane and planes were landing across the river from our cabin. We had breakfast in the a-la-carte section of the dining room, as opposed to the buffet on the floor below. We even had a table for two. It was lovely. After breakfast we wandered around, watching the passengers leaving for shore excursions, or being met by family and friends. Later on in the morning we wandered down to the schooner bar where they were having a trivia game on the theme of airport codes. It was fun, we didn't do too badly. We had been joined by a strange lady who was passing by and was quite helpful. After trivia we sat and read for quite a while (with a cocktail), being going to the Promenade Cafe where we had 2 slices of pizza each for lunch, followed by coffee and a cookie. Tom went off to watch a Jurassic movie. He then explored the ship a little more. Later this afternoon we prepared for dinner and returned to the schooner bar for the Abba trivia quiz, during which we left the port. The quiz was fun and it was right outside the Italian restaurant where we had our dinner booking. Dinner was HUGE!! It was a five course meal, which we accompanied with a bottle of Wolf Blass sparkling. The food was just delightful. I had seafood in all courses except dessert. Tom had a mixture of veal, beef and vegetarian. So we finally had a table for two for dinner, and the couple at the next table inspect our food to help them make their choices, and decide this is a chance to make more friends, which of course my friendly husband responds to. Yeah, no thanks. What has happened to personal space, to discretion? To having an intimate dinner with your husband, even when you've booked a table for 2?? After dinner we returned to our room, and watched the pilot being collected out from Caloundra. We then made our way down to the theatre to watch tonight's show. I didn't particularly enjoy it. It was a husband and wife playing various string instruments, and she thought she could sing. Impressions of the humanity on the ship: people cheating in the trivia games (using their phones, particularly Shazam in the Abba quiz); people getting angry at the people behind them in the theatre for kicking their chairs; people wearing skimpy clothes all over the ship; people wandering around with stubbies and glasses of wine in their hands; people in the elevator saying "get in if you don't 'flatulate'". It's not Cunard Colleen. Tom did hear someone say they'd paid $700 for the 2 week cruise. We paid $1500 each - you get what you pay for.
