G'day mates!
Driving to the airport in Sydney was an adventure in itself! Im surprised that anyone on that bus got to the airport in one piece! The driver was all over the place, cutting people up, I dont think he knew what a red traffic light meant either! I arrived at the airport with an hour until my flight to Cairns, the time went relatively quickly and before I knew it, I was on the plane for a two and a half hour journey up the east coast.
As soon as I had got off of the plane, I could feel the heat... it was a great feeling, especially after the weather in Sydney.
I made my way to baggage reclaim and on to the ticket office to buy my bus ticket to Gilligans Hostel. I dont know how I done it, but a ticket to the hostel should have cost $15, but I managed to persuade them that a five pound english note was better (equivelant to $10)! They accepted and I got on the bus!
I met a girl from Liverpool on the bus; Tammy. On what seemed like a ten minute journey, I managed to find out her whole life story and agreed to meet up for a few drinks.
I checked into Gilligans (Tammy was staying at another hostel) and met my new room mates, who are Australian. Gilligans is a palace compared to the Maze hostel where I stayed in Sydney. There are water fountains in reception, with a large swimming pool and a dining area which can seat 1000 people. My dorm even had an en suite bathroom - whoop! Im staying in another eight bed dorm, however there are only three of us that are checked into it at the moment. Tammy walked round and the five of us made our way to the Rhinobar for drinks and a bite to eat.
The Rhinobar was hosting a ladies night, so all the girls were given champagne (on tap!) throughout the whole night, so it was very messy.
Im meeting up with Tammy again tomorrow so that we can explore Cairns a little further than the Rhinobar (a five minute walk from Gilligans).
I can honestly say that Cairns is ten times more chilled out that Sydney and I love it already!
