Today was our last day on Kauai and we were able to get out on the water to see the Na Pali coast which is spectacular! The entire west coast of Kauai is not accessible by car so it's boat or helicopter. We had been disappointed with two cancelled helicopter tours due to rain but fortunately today the catamaran cruise went out. We enjoyed the views of the cliffs but also enjoyed seeing lots of humpback whales. These are the same whales as in Alaska and they come here to give birth. While they're here the adults do not eat but the young gain about 150 lbs a day. They are so impressive to watch it was lots of fun! The captain also dropped a hydro sonic microphone in to listen to them. They sort of sound like a moaning cow...pretty neat.
We have enjoyed the island of Kauai but have had rain to dodge......but I guess that's why the island is as lush and green as it is. Off to the Big Island tomorrow.
