Randy & Marilyn's Retirement Travels
We have entered Chile at Port Arenas. Until the Panama Canal was built in 1914, the Stait Of Magellen was the main shipping route for commercial vessels traveling between the Atlantic and Pacific. It is considered the gateway to the Antarctic.
We saw a replica of Magellen's ship and tour of the city. Learned more about these exploring navigators and the unbelievable journey they endured. City of the Tycoons of Patagonia that made their fortunes shipping. We visited the local cemetery with impressive mausoleums of these wealthy families.
The cruising here is amazing with lots of sea like along the way. We've seen Dolphins and sea lions along side the cruise ship.
