So we made it!! We arrived in Bangkok at about 4pm local time yesterday afternoon. The flight was OK and the 11 hours flew by for all of us except Dave, who found himself with no in flight entertainment and an MP3 player, which died after the first 4hrs. The ironic thing was, we weren't even supposed to be in those seats. So excited at the thought of getting out of the UK, we just sat in any old seats to later be told we were in fact not in the window seats we had chosen, but the middle row. Luckily the people who seats we had stolen said they didnt mind having ours.
Getting through customs wasn't an issue and although we tried really hard not to look like we hadn't got a clue what we were doing, we ended up wondering around outside the airport, looking for a taxi in the wrong place, avoiding on purpose the obvious taxi rank thinking they would just rip us off.
We got dropped of on Khao San Road, which is the main strip in Bangkok, desperate to find somewhere to dump our bags and grab a pint. After going into about 5 or so hostels looking for a room and being turned down by each one, saying they were full, we accepted the fact we should have booked ahead. We eventually found a tourist info place, where they managed to rip us off for a fairly plush hotel, by this point we didnt care!
Today we woke up determined to find cheaper accommodation, so at 9am we were trekking the streets again to be told they were all full due to the fact its Chinese new year. Eventually we found some where and are very happy with it we have pet fish!!
The plan for tomorrow is a tour around the floating markets, tiger temples and where the Bridge over the river Kwai was filmed, should be grrrreat!
