Today we got up ready to check out of the hostel at 10am. We are leaving New Zealand today to head to Australia but our flight doesn't leave until the afternoon so we took our bags to the lads room to keep there until we leave for the airport. I spent some time with Graham while Gina made some phone calls. Then Gina and I went to the Cathedral Square cafe with Graham for breakfast. We were feeling really tired from the night before. Afterwards we went back to the hostel and chilled out in the lads room until our airport shuttle arrived at 1pm. Base do their own shuttle for $5.00 which is a bargain. All the lads came down to reception to say goodbye to us. It was a very sad moment as its not going to be the same without them. The shuttle took us to the airport and we dropped our bags off as we had already checked in online. We are flying with Qantas to Cairns via Sydney but even though our bags have been through checked we still have to collect them at Sydney Airport after clearing customs and recheck them in for the flight to Cairns. We had to pay a departure tax to leave Christchurch which was $25.00 and then we went through security. After a short wait we boarded the plane and headed off to Sydney. It took around 2 hours and 40 minutes. I was feeling really sad to be leaving New Zealand and kept reflecting on how much fun we have had over the last month. Australia will be amazing though and looking forward to making some new friends.
