On Sunday 17th January Gina and I moved out of Bruce and Alex's apartment and went to stay at the Base hostel right in the heart of Sydney. We said goodbye to Bruce and Alex who were off to the beach and got a bus to North Sydney station as we had all our bags with us. We got off the train at Town Hall station and then it was a short walk from here to the Base hostel. We checked in for two nights for the time being but we will probably extend. Gina was put in the same 10 bed dorm room as Kerry but it was full so I had to go in a 8 bed drom room. Kerry is back at the Base hostel as she found the YHA hostel at the Rocks to expensive. In the evening we had a walk around Darling Harbour. It was nice down there with all the buildings lit up. Kit came with us as well who is staying in Kerry and Gina's dorm room. She is travelling on her own and seems really nice. On Monday 18th January I spent the whole day printing off copies of my CV's and handing them in to retail shops along George street, in the Queen Victoria Building and in the Harbourside shopping centre at Darling Harbour. Its proving very difficult to find a job at the moment and need to get something soon otherwise money will run out. All retail shops require people to have at least 1 years retail experience which I don't have but its worth a try. Can't be that hard to sell clothes etc. Also I enquired about working for accommodation at the Maze hostel in Pitt street and left my CV with them. The manager will hopefully give me a call soon. In the evening it was karaoke night in the Base hostel bar Scary Canary. I had met some people in my dorm room called David, Alan and Sashika who I was going out with tonight. They are all travelling on their own. We got some goon and played drinking games. Gina didn't want to come out and Kerry was working. We went to Scary Canary and David and Sashika were not allowed in as they were too drunk. I met a guy called Andy and got chatting to him. He was Irish. Alan, Andy and myself were sharing jugs of beer together. I was getting very drunk. Gina and Kerry had changed their minds and arrived later on in the night. They got up together and sang Lady Gaga Just Dance and Eminem Lose Yourself on the karaoke. They were very good as well. It was a great night and I am glad that Gina and Kerry came out in the end. On Tuesday 19th January I heard from Anita at AA Appointments to tell me that I didn't get the Qantas Holidays job. They said that I did a really good interview and they had chosen me in the top two people considered for the role in their reservations department. Unfortunately I missed out to the other person. I felt quite gutted that I didn't get the job as I really wanted it but I am glad that I had the experience of what an interview is like with an airline. It was quite an achievement to get as far as I did as loads of people applied for the job. The job search continues. On Wednesday 20th January I went to Bondi Beach as it was a sunny day. I caught a bus from Elizabeth street to Bondi Beach via Bondi Junction. It cost $8.00 and took about 20 minutes. It was really busy down the beach. While I was sunbathing I got a phone call from Anita to say that some temps are needed for a couple of days work at Carnival Australia in North Sydney. It would be call centre work for P&O Cruises. The job role starts next week so Anita said she would forward on my CV to them. I need some money coming in now so I hope I get it. Fingers crossed. I wouldn't need to go for an interview either. In the evening there was a beach party happening in Scary Canary. I went down for the free goon in the hostel with Leanne one of the girls in my dorm room at 8pm and met up with Gina and Kit. Then we went to Scary Canary for the beach party night. Kerry was working so she couldn't make it. They had a surf machine competition in the bar and then a wet T Shirt competition. The guys were loving that. It was a great night but Gina and I weren't drinking as we couldn't afford too. On Thursday 21st January Anita from AA Appointments called me to say that I got the temp work at Carnival Australia next week. I was so pleased. Its $21.00 per hour which is roughly GBP12.00 plus 9% superannuation which is money towards a pension fund. I also heard from the manager at the Maze hostel to say that they didn't need anyone to work for accommodation at the moment but would let me know when they do require people. On Friday 22nd January I checked out of the Base hostel as it was full over the weekend and moved to the Maze hostel in Pitt street for two nights. I was put in a 8 bed dorm room. Gina and Kerry managed to stay on at the Base hostel. In the afternoon Gina texted me to say that she got the Rebel Sport job and starts on Tuesday 2nd February. I was so happy for her. Things are starting to look up on the job front now. On Saturday 23rd January I met Gina and Kerry in the Domain for a Symphony Orchestra concert in the evening which was part of the Sydney Festival. It was a really good concert with lovely music and then at the end they had a spectacular firework display. Kerry needed cheering up as she quit her job at Peter Doyle's restaurant. The chef was being really nasty to her and shouted at her a few times in front of the staff and customers so enough was enough for her.
