Second time around in London, and a chance to get a bit more of a feel for the city which is so closely intertwined with Australians and their sojourns OS.
Im thinking it must be because the language barrier makes it an easy place to go... because I dont get it.
The day after I arrived I went to the Notting Hill Carnival, which is this huge street fair through the streets of Notting Hill.
It is a Carribean festival in essence, as Notting Hill is where a great number of ppl of that background live. Now watching the news later that night, they were raving, saying how good it was, the decorations were amazing, the people had a wow of a time.
To be fair, most people seemed to be enjoying themselves. But it was just a big pissup really, the floats were trucks with a few people dancing behind them. The costumes were scattered and some were ok, most were people pouring Cadbury drinking chocolate on a yellow t-shirt...
If this was an awesome festival... Something obviously got lost in translation for me.
The theatre district is bustling, every second store is a half price ticket seller...
The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace was preceded by the big band playing tunes like Thriller???
Im thinking much like Scotland I could like the UK a lot, just leave me out of the big cities and put me near a village with an estate and some property.
And back on the language thing, I have trouble understanding most people in stores the first time around they say something hahaha!
Im just a bit dissapointed, after the rich culture, friendly vibe and amazing people I met over the past month in Europe, London dont cut it. With me anyhow...
