A celebratory weekend, starting with Garry's 6th months celebration - 'that's his flight here bagged'' - at a German drinking establishment. A Phillipino band rocking The Final Countdown and One More Time. Earlier, I showed Junior 2/1 (they have graduated up a level now) the Little Red Riding Hood Video.
On Saturday, it was the English Study Group's 9th anniversary, so there was an event put on at the University. Grease is the word, and 'Summer Nights' was performed, plus a homage to Shrek. Nearly 4 hours, I was a little weary by the end, especially after a debate on child sex offenders, which didn't seem to suit the otherwise party atmopshere. Thank heavens for Soju and Samgyeopsal, which came after.
On Sunday, I experienced a Korean wedding, and the mad scrum to get hitched before the next couple come along. Everything seemed bizarrely out of sequence, compared to a British wedding. The speeches (well, one) happen during the ceremony, a guy played a kazoo really out-of-tune and, afterwards, 10 of us ended up in a tiny room which had nothing to do the wedding and we were completely cut off from the rest of the wedding 'party'.
There was a huge, fake cake, and most people seemed to wear Black or traditional hanbok.
A surreal and sober affair. It was very stage managed and the make-up artist literally followed the bride, Na-Young, up the aisle in case she cried and ruined her mascara!
I did witness, however, the first public kiss by two Koreans... on the lips and everything(!) Everyone whooped like they were all 13! I think it means she will have a baby now.
Phil.x.
Look out for more revelations about Korean life soon!!!!!!
