25/27. One week before my watershed 6 months is up.
Easter... not that you would know it, here.
A more difficult week which ended on a more positive note. After posting my satisfaction on last week's blog,
I immediately struggled with my classes... a chemical
imbalance and a gutteral twinge. One bad class leads to
another. Tension mounts as staff quit and room changes are enforced. There will be a period of transition.
Na-young has gone, after 5 years, which makes Andy the longest serving member of staff. She does, however, invite me to her wedding next month, which will be an interesting experience I am sure.
A change of clothes often does the trick... and I wore green on Thursday and put some of the kids in different seats ... and suddenly everything clicked. What do they call that - feng shui?
Friday was Eun-jung's birthday... more cake and chopsticks.. and she has moved next to me at work.
On Saturday, I had no plan yet again. An email fortunately arrived in my inbox telling me about an English Study Group, near the University. I nearly gave up trying to find the building, but eventually a taxi driver showed me the way and I spent 3 hours with around 20 Korean men and 6 Korean women for an adult English MS-Echo self-study group at a JSB hakwon.
My motivation is to offer help, volunteer my services as a native speaker. It is also to alleviate loneliness on a Saturday, and a chance to meet new friends. Ultimately, it is an attempt to find a girl, although this would be a bonus!
My looks were described as 'youthful', while my voice was openly described, by one woman, as 'sexy'... so that compliment was immediately rewarded with my new cell-phone number. But it was another, who i discovered lived near to me in Banji-dong, that i hit it off with. Cue - another torn off piece of paper with some digits scrawled for future contact. She drove us both home and i eschewed a drink with the boys for the glimmer of hope that comes with the scent of a ladies' perfume and a heart-warming smile.
(anyone thrown up yet?)
If anything happens... I will be the first to know(!)
Bye for now.
