I crashed at Mo's hotel. A bit of luxury and saved me hunting for a place yesterday (LT). I find a little guest house tucked up a street not too far from her hotel. I really want to try some of the local food here "blue chair" venues as Mo nicknames them. Essentially where the locals eat. The place we find is not far and has just 3 items on the menu. I get pork and noodles. Nothing remarkable unfortunately. We head to the Saturday market. Similar to the Sunday market but it's mainly on one long street. I grab some fresh chicken on a stick, tastier than the food earlier. The National Anthem starts playing and everyone stops moving. It's like musical statues but the smell of the chicken is too much and decide to eat whilst listening. Once finished we walk to the end of the road and get coffee at a tiny little coffee shop with just a couple of tables. Outside is a platform with policemen performing karaoke
As we walk round the moat, I still wonder where I stayed previously. There was a lot of gun running to Burma and we were told not to venture south of the river. We pretty much stayed within the boundaries of the moat. We find a little park with a large quantity of fish in a pond. An outdoor gym is there and the locals are enjoying their time off. There is a great little bookshop near John's bar where backpackers and travellers have sold their books. Relaxing browsing there before we head to the roof at Johns and watch China vs USA womens volleyball.
