The room is empty when I get up. Mo has a Thai lesson so I head up to Johns to find WiFi that works and enjoy the breeze. I walk around some more, hunting for some of the old Chiang Mai I remember. A lot has changed, and I only have the square moat as guidance. I pick up my laundry, the Thai's not letting me down and I have a coffee at the Pirates Cove bar on my street. A parrot screething in the cornor
Today is Sunday and Mo and I head to the large market that takes over many of the streets in the area. On route seeing more temples - Wat Chedi Luang and an old wat called Wat Phantao. The large market even spills into the many temples, providing space for food stalls. Crafts, t-shirts, street art depicting Ronald as a devil invading the east, many types of food that I want to try later. My credit card is currently blocked so we head to a cafe across from Johns so that I can get a seat and spend 10 minutes via Skype to remedy this. I nervously drink a fanta getting this fixed, hoping the low wi-fi doesn't drop. Losing my bank card in Phuket, I can't afford to lose my credit card. Testing the card, it works and we cross over the moat for a beer. Me sticking to Chiang and Mo drinking Leo at a bar called Rock Win Style. We head back to my hostel, which is in the old part of town inside the square moat and this is where the market is. Many of the bars, Mo's hotel and the main market we visited the other day are outside the square moat. We grab a beer from the hostel counter and research Pai. It's somewhere I'd like to revisit and Mo has not been yet. Hungry we take the short walk into the market. A small stall sells little mushrooms wrapped in a layer of ham. With the crunchy texture of the mushrooms they are delicious. Not far we see the oddest sight. A small dog movin along on a bicycle and it is smiling. Assuming the mushrooms are not magic, we look for more street food. It's really cheap, less than a pound and we try some Pork and chichen skewers whilst sitting watching people fire small pellet guns at targets.
Johns is packed so crossing over the moat we head down the ladyboy street and find a wee bar.
