Today is road work Friday. I'm driving to Wanaka.
I get stopped for bridge painting, bush trimming, digging holes for drainage and rock clearance from the road.
Firstly a 20 minute wait while they painted a section of the bridge. Talking to the stop and go board man when he realised I was British proudly told me the bridge was made of British steel and put in place after the 2nd world war. The bridge hadn't been printed in 30 years. He also told me about some good places to stop on the way to take photo's.
It was quite cold in Wanaka, surrounded by snowy mountains.
There is something wonderful about being in mountains with snow.
The ski season doesn't start for about 3 weeks. Unlike European ski resorts where you can ski from the front door the ski fields in NZ are about 2 hours drive away from Wanaka or Queenstown.
