I drove from Dunedin towards Oamatu. I stopped at Shag point in search of seals and penguins. If you look very closely at this photo you can see seal sunning themselves and blending very well into the rocks. As Darren thought and Google confirmed Shags are goose-sized dark long necked birds similar to cormorants.
No sign of the elusive penguins though.
I then stopped to see the Moeraki boulders. Large round stones just laying randomly on the beach. I went for a walk along the beach.
Nearby there is Fleur's Place, which is home to one of South Islands best seafood restaurant. A timber hut on a jetty. I decided it was too breezy to sit outside so I headed upstairs. I had a large piece of fish and salad which was lovely.
I drove into Oamaru where there are lots of preserved Victorian buildings. Here you find bookshops, antique stores, vintage clothing, artist studio's and crafts.
I stayed at the YHA where there is only 1 other person staying.
