We hopped on to the ferry in the morning from Iraklio and took the 2 hour ride to Santorini and arrived just before noon. As you approach the calderra from the boat, it is completely surreal being surrounded by massive protruding volcanic rock out of the sea and when you see the massive vertical western face of Santorini it truly is a 'wow' moment! We got picked up by the shuttle bus with our hotel and made the swift and zigg zaggy switch back assent to the top of the caldera. Again our hotel hosts are extremely nice and accommodating and can't get over how great the Greek people are! After a quick bite for lunch we got on the bus to Kamari which is a small town with a black volacnic rock and sand beach on the east coast of the island. We walked around and explored the Kamari area and lounged at the beach on another beautiful hot and sunny afternoon. We came back to Fira (which is where we are staying) and went out for dinner in town to a place called Mama's House and man it has to be one of the better meals we have had yet! The eccentric and hilarious owner really added to the atmosphere and we may be back before we leave! We worked off our meals and walked around Fira town the rest of the night between the narrow alley ways and streets full of restaurants shops and bars. Can't wait to come back during the afternoon and check out the view from the top of the calderra! It only been half a day but so far we are loving Santorini and are really looking forward for the next 3 days here!
