Today we embarked another winedy and crazy bus ride to the beautiful Elafonisi beach on the very most south western corner of Crete. It was hard to believe that you can take a greyhound bus through steep and twisting mountain roads and passing through small towns where the roads are single lane wide at best! Once you arrive to your final destination of Elafonisi, you are imediately hit with the awe and beauty of the area as the crystal clear blue water along with the white and pink sand beach is surrounded by incredibly steep and rugged coastline. We spent most of the afternoon swimming and walking through the prestine waters and also relaxed on the beach enjoying the view and a nice cold beer! On the way back home we stopped halfway at the very small village of Elos where we enjoyed an amazing greek meal (Our guide told us how this would be one of the most authentic meals we could have, and its "real" Greek food and none of that "plastic stuff" you get in touristy areas haha) of Moussaka (Eggplant, mince, potato, and cheese) and fresh bread topped off with some watermelon and Raki (post meal liquor to help with digestion, commonly served after most meals as a sign of hospitality) for dessert. Defintely has to be our favorite meal of the trip so far! Once we made it back to Chania we grabbed some Gelato and watched the sunset along the waterfront in the old town.
Tomorrow we are off the Rethymno!
