Our Global Gallivants
Today is our 35th wedding anniversary. Spent it by going to karate this morning for the last day of training. 10-11 was Sensei Linda's turn to do the warm up and it was one of the most difficult we have ever done. Everybody was warmed up and there were a lot of puddles of sweat on the floor. Yuck! Sensei told us later that she knows everybody is stiff and tired and it helps to start off really sweating. She was right, my shoulders were less stiff after that. Second hour was with Sensei Gene from Spokane. It was parrying during sparring and was all done with a partner. I just cannot override the instinct to back up when someone comes at me instead of charging at them. The best I got was to move slightly forward, but to the side. Ah, well, something to practise. Final session was a great way to end-Shisochin kata with Sensei Nakamura. After that was an hour talk and slide show by Sensei Nakamura on Sensei Higaonna's life. We had 1/2 hour to clean up and meet Australia and England for snacks and drinks at Jack Astor's. That was fun. From there we went to Sensei Nakamura's house for pizza and drinks with Chile, Argentina, and the other visiting Sensei's. Lots of fun and booze. I don't know how they can train so hard and then party so hard and then get up and do it again. They are all 7th degree black belts, so I guess it comes with the training.
