Our Global Gallivants
Today is Chinese New Year's Day. It is the year of the monkey (Dave is a monkey) Before we went to bed last night, we all took a Dramamine tablet and another 1/2 this morning in anticipation of going on the rides at Universal Studios today. We all went on the Dr. Seuss ride together-definitely for younger children. What Jody really wanted to do was go to the Harry Potter section. By the time we got there, the waiting time for ride of the Hippo Grif was 90 minutes. Jody and I decided to go on a crazy ride in the lost continent where the wait time was 10 minutes and then rejoin Dave in the lineup. Your first indication that it's going to be a serious ride are the signs posted outside and then by the way you're pinned in your seat. You had a choice of a blue ride or a red ride And we chose the red Chinese Fire ride. It starts with the floor dropping away from under your feet so that your legs are dangling free. This thing went so fast, upside down and around sharp corners. You really didn't know which end was up! You could actually feel the blood rush to your feet. There was no way that I could have done that ride without the Dramamine. As it was, we were woozy when we got off. Definitely an experience! There was a little store set up in the Harry Potter area that is where Ollivander from the movie made the wands. He picks a person from the group and the wand "chooses" them. The person he picked was me. He brings out a couple of wands and they don't do what they're supposed to. Eventually I get a willow wand with a horse hair center. When his little show is over, he ushers you into the next room where the cashier is, and they ask you if you want to purchase it for $51. I didn't even watch the movies! The ride of the Hippo Grif was a roller coaster ride. Pretty anti climactic after having done the Chinese fire ride, but it was still fun. Next up was Spider-Man. That was also a lot of fun. You wear 3D glasses as you ride along on this adventure.. Parts of the ride sprinkle you with water while others blow hot air at you as you pass fire. The Harry Potter ride was broken for part of the day but they eventually got it running. Jody decided to go on that ride, so off to the hour long line for that one. Dave and I were waiting in the restaurant where we had lunch. Eventually, we both fell asleep. In the meantime, the doors to the restaurant were locked. Jody finishes the ride, but can't get in to meet us because they have locked the doors. I woke up to her banging on the window! We went back to the hotel and decided Togo to Bonefish Grill for dinner. The food was quite good, as well as the service. I had the Pompano fish and Dave and Jody both had Cobia. Our hotel room is on the 17th floor, so we have a great view. We watched the fireworks from our room. All 3 of us had been drowsy during the day from the Dramamine, so it was an early night.
