We woke to more dingos howling and wild horses. After packing up camp at Gunlom we have a slow drive back out to the sealed road. We stopped at another waterfall for morning tea, this time it was Maguk (Barramundie Gorge). It was a little walk in to this one with lots of rock hopping. After a few slips Jacob got prime position on Joel's hip again. Anyway it was another pretty waterfall with the usual fish waiting to see if they would get fed. We didn't swim as it was bit early and it is always a bit unnerving to go swimming with salt water croc warning signs and croc baits set right next to the swimming spot.
Next spot was Cooinda (Yellow River) for lunch. This is where you can go on wetland cruises through Kakadu - lots of "tourist" things to do. Considering it was going to cost over $400 to go on a 1 1/2 hour cruise we decided that will will try our luck getting a cruise at Mary River in a few days - have heard that it is half the price. Anyway we went down to the boat ramp and saw some magpie geese, egrets and a few weird duck things plus the water lillies etc so we got a taste for the wetlands.
We have decided to camp in Jabiru for the next two nights. We did consider Yellow River but had heard that the mozzies were very bad so thought we would give that a miss, and we are glad that we did as at our lunch spot we were already being bitten by mozzies and it was the middle of the day, 32C and in the sun. Only a couple of mozzies so far tonight. We heard that they spray for mozzies in Jabiru and it is away from the wetlands.
Jabiru is a small mining town (Uranium). We restocked some supplies, set up and had a swim in the park's pool. We (the adults) are feeling a bit tired tonight so ready for a good sleep except we will see how that goes (have some friendly flying foxes and dingos around).
