Today we survived sharks!!!!!
When I say survived we more like swam with them but uncaged. It was one of the best experiences we both have done.
The dive was in Manly so we took the boat across passing next to the opera house and into the picturesque harbour, passing the many islands and headlands. The harbour is huge.
Nerves were starting to kick in now. Kyle's were about the stingrays, mine about breathing underwater. The experience started with the instructor taking us to see them. He explained that these were nurse sharks which are critically endangered with only around 500 left, also they are not man eaters, their jaws can't hold you. We would also be diving with loggerhead turtles and stingrays. Now the stingrays are not small creatures as you may think one was the size of a queen size bed the other two just a double bed (great something else to worry about).
So we had our training session on the equipment and hand signals not alleviating my fears about breathing. We got kitted up and jumped into the training pool. To be greeted by a stingray but it was ok it was only the size of a double bed (it was also very sick hence the reason it was in the pool).
Now Kyle took to breathing underwater like a fish I did not. I freaked out big time but the staff were super patient and comforting and I finally agreed to go in. Best decision ever I was so close to walking out.
We finally got into the sharks and they were all around us. I looked over my shoulder and there was a shark right there around 30 cms from my face!!!! It was amazing and the time went way to fast. As we were getting out I was waiting out on the platform when all of a sudden I got a nudge on my side and there was Dave the turtle, who gave me the dirtiest look for blocking his way!!!!!
It was AMAZING and I'm so proud we both faced our fears !!!!
