I cannot believe I have been in Australia for two weeks already!!!
On Saturday I had first aid training for my RA position, all day in a nearby suburb called Belmont. We had the soccer game at night (The Perth professional team was on our flight from Sydney and they gave us four free tickets). Since the training went so long the other three girls left before I got back so I had to take the train to West Perth by myself. I didn't mind because every time I do something like that by myself I feel more confident in my traveling abilities. The only issue was I didn't read my friends text correctly and accidently went 20 stops past where I was supposed to get off, oops! I did eventually make it. Perth lost, but the experience was fun. We took the train back to Fremantle and we stopped at the Round House, which is just an outdoor fort on the beach, it was one of the domestic students 18th birthday (like our 21st birthday in the U.S.) we then went back to the dorm and changed to go back out.
On Sunday we went to the local weekend markets. I bought fresh produce for the week and also had to stop at the grocery store. We then decided to walk to the office supply store to purchase school supplies. It was about a two-mile walk to the store. We just hung out the rest of the day. Our dorm has had some large bugs roaming around and for some reason since I am one of the RA's the others think I have a better ability to kill the bugs so I have had to kill three cockroaches so far (if you saw how big they were you would kill them too!). When I was getting out of the shower there was a lizard and I was too afraid if I didn't keep an eye on it, it would end up in my room so I was standing there in my towel calling for help until a number of people came and helped capture the lizard in a glass and took it outside, haha lets just say it was quite a scene.
I don't have classes on Mondays or Tuesdays so on Monday morning I went for a swim at the beach. In the afternoon I had the RA fire training, we are going to have a fire drill one day and I get to wear one of the fire hats and check to see if everyone is out of the building. I am embarrassed to admit this to Aunt Pat and Bonnie but I made my first omelet (ever) for dinner, I was sick of eating yogurt and granola for all of my meals. You would think after all of the cooking we have done at your house I would be able to make better meals but the food just never tastes the same when I cook.
On Tuesday I begrudgingly opened blackboard to print off the syllabuses for my courses. I also decided to sit in on an environment science course that I think I might add to my schedule. I don't really want to take a class on Tuesday but it is a class that I need, so we shall see what happens.
I talked to my parents and Aunt Pat a couple of days ago and I also Skyped Adriana . . . It was good to talk to people from home!!
I hope everyone is doing well!!!
OXOXO

Sister Diana Sounds as if you are having some very interesting adventures. I'll be curious to see how the classes are conducted. You are able to compare them to St Mary's and UD? How larger is the uni and how many new students were part of the orientation? Let me know how large your classes are. Hopefully, you continue to do well. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. Take care!
Ann Want me to send you some recipes? Haha! Be sure to post pics of you in that fire hat :) sounds like you're having a wonderful time!!! xoxo
Elizabeth Clarke Ann!!! haha that would be great (but only if the recipes are from your mom's Polka Hall of Fame Cook book!!!)
Elizabeth Clarke Sister Diana -- I believe there are around 10,000 students but only about 75 (mostly international) students live on campus. Classes are a lot different in the sense that students are only at University for three years and unlike the United States in high school they have to decide what they want to study and they only take those classes at university (compared to in the states we have to take the core curriculum like math, science, english …). There are only one or two big assignments and the final, sometimes the final can be 50% of your grade. I have only had one class, most classes have a lecture that all the students taking that class attend and a tutorial where the class is broken into a smaller number of students and the professor explains the lecture in more detail. For the one class I have attended the lecture had around 50 students and the tutorial for that class only had 25 students.
