Brussles is a very winding city. Every street seems to go in a circle which renders maps virtually useless, its much easier to just walk in the general direction you want to go and find your way by wondering. The old city is very compact and the main square is magnificent, its exactly what I think of when I picture an old European city.
Belgium has lots of big cathedrals, museums, and even the 'normal' buildings seem to be huge. Belgium is definitely a must see as far as archictectural concerns.
I´ll say something about waffles, I don´t know how they do it or what makes them different or why we can´t replicate them, but waffles in Belgium are absolutely unbelievable. The first waffle I had in Brussels was the best waffle I´ve had in my life by a huge margin, I could have ate half a dozen of them if they were free. There fries are almost as impressive. Although the French are typically credited, Belgium claims they invented fries and I definitely believe them. Americans can definitely make good fries, but Belgiums are no worse and if I had to choose I´d take Belgium fries over anywhere in the states. I had fries probably a total of 3 times in Brussels and I would say all three of them were top 10 in my life. They even put fries on sandwiches or in burritos or in gyros, wherever they can. And mayonnaise is the primary topping in Belgium, not ketchup, and its actually really good. So, the food in Belgium was really good and the beer was to. Beer in Belgium seems to be an art, similar to how the French view wine. There are hundreds of types of beers in Belgium and they are all very unique. The way the beers are served out of a tap is even unique, the glasses are moved up and down at different angles under the tap and then a flat spatula is used to scrape off some of the head off the top of the beer, its very unusual, we tried to take a video of a bartender doing this but it didnt work. If we have a chance to go back, and I want to, we´ll try again to get that video.
