Day 338, 7 June 2013, San Francisco, California. Lazy morning and an afternoon pottering about China Town - the highlight of the day was visiting the Custom Made Theater Co. (www.custommade.org) here in San Fran for their production of "Prelude to a Kiss". And we chose to walk there. It wasn't the worst walk in the world - but boy, the tourist maps in San Fran could sure do to be topographical - couple of hills en route - phew! On a positive note we had five minutes to spare when we arrived at the Playhouse and that was enough to calm our breathing. This was an incredible show - the smallest theatre we've ever been in - no more than 80 seats in the place (so by NY standards... off-off-off-Broadway). We could have actually touched the actors from where we were sitting. Basically a soul switch concept - which we've seen done in movies but never in "real life". Incredibly enjoyable - like being flies on the wall in someone else's life drama. The walk home was almost all downhill - which was great and, by recent standards, freezing cold - from the 112 F of Vegas down to 60 degrees max (say 15 degrees C) - so glad we had lugged our jackets with us). Truly one of the highlights of San Francisco. Packing tomorrow... won't be a highlight - but leaving the USA and heading for South America is pretty much blowing our minds right now. Five countries to go - Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. Unbelievable. The story... Rita and Peter's whirlwind romance takes a startling turn in Prelude to a Kiss, a Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-nominated comedy by Craig Lucas. When a mysterious old man congratulates Rita with a kiss following her storybook wedding to Peter, the bride and the stranger exchange bodies. This thrusts the newlyweds into a mystical journey as they attempt to find the true strength of their love, beyond the surface connections that first drew them to one another. Prelude to a Kiss was a Broadway hit and a feature film starring Alec Baldwin and Meg Ryan. Stuart Bousel directs this Custom Made Theatre Co. production.
