Day 337, 6 June 2013, San Francisco, California. We are taking it (semi) easy at the moment - having a breather before South America. We utilised our transport passes and spent the day cruising up hill and down dale on cable cars (seriously the hardest worked braking systems in the world - pictured). Jolly difficult to get actual photos when you are on the cable cars... and highly dangerous standing in the middle of the street for the perfect shot. Though not to say we haven't seen people do it. You can even hang on to the bars when there isn't enough room inside... However just because you can, doesn't mean you should. This particular shot is the Powell-Market car coming back from Fishermens' Wharf into the city. We also spent loads more time on the streetcars and trams of the historic F-train line - taking it all the way to the heart of San Francisco's Gay neighbourhood down near the Castro theatre. We have travelled on a wide variety thus far - San Diego, Boston, Washington D.C., Detroit, Texas cars from the USA and, believe it or not, a bone rattler from Milan, Italy and, most amazingly, one of Melbourne's original trams. We're not sure you can even do that in Melbourne these days!!!
