Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
Last night we didn't get much sleep with strong gusts of wind picking up in the middle of the night. It was quite bad, really shaking the roof and pushing the canvas sides, it was the worst we have experienced. We had the windows open so that the wind could flow through to minimise the impact but we were just getting lots of dirt blown in. So about 1a.m. we put the boys in the car and slowly drove the camper back from the waters edge and tucked it in against the yacht club building. It was better but I still stayed in the car for about another 10 minutes until the wind backed off as the camper was still shaking too much for my liking. Rockwood is a relatively cheap make of caravan but it sure has stood up to the winds and being put up and down over 100 times.
We left for our next destination before any rain hit and stopped by the silt jetties at Eagle Point. These weren't that exciting to look at. It really just looked like a piece of land but they do hold the title of being the second longest silt jetties in the world at around 7km long.
We then stopped at Bairnsdale to let the kids have a run around at the new all abilities playground. It was a really good park here but we also stopped at one just down the road at Howitt Park as it had a really long slide and flying fox that we all had a go at.
We then found a camp at Lakes Entrance. I was really looking forward to some time here but unfortunately the strong winds (about 35 knots) with stronger gusts have been going all day and really putting a dampener on things. The camper is still shaking here and the wind is just too icy to stay outside for long. Seeing the waterways, it looks like a beautiful place but the water is so choppy at the moment. Now we have to decide if we wait and for how long to try get some weather good enough to enjoy this beautiful place.
