Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
We started the day at the Artesian Hot Springs which is only 200m down the road from where we are staying. The Great Artesian Basin covers 22% of Australia and this particular bore goes down 1km.They have one big one which is fairly hot and this runs into a smaller shallow pool which is a little cooler. This was great for the kids so we spent most of the time there.
We then went back to camp for a swim in the camp pool. It is heated so was also really nice to swim in.
We went to the fossiking pile but it was all stuck together and there were no tools so we didn't do much there.
After lunch we drove around the car door tours. They lead through all the dirt roads where people have established makeshift looking houses or caravans and don't have an exact address. Amigo's castle was closed at the time of driving past but there were signs out the front which didn't give the appearance of them welcoming people.
We tried to find Astronomer's Monument which we weren't successful in but apparently that is probably a good thing with many reviews of a crazy lady running the joint. It has even been taken off the tourist map of things to see so I would say they have had a lot of problems. The bottle and beer can house we saw from the outside...they aren't pretty, but they are interesting.
We saw an old church that featured in a movie a long time ago and "Stanley" the 18m emu made from 2 Volkswagens.
We finished off the day back in the bore baths.
