We arrived in Cochabamba really early in the morning. I had to find a hostel (since I could not book one online), however i had an idea of where to go. We all took the same taxi, and the taxi was going to drop me off first. He dropped me off in an area that I told him where there were numorous hostels. I said goodbye to Eugenia and her aunt (I was going to meet Eugenia later).
I set off to find a hostel. First one was too dirty, second one did not have available rooms, third was too expensive...finally found one for 35 Bolivianos...I liked Bolivia because I could rent a room for really cheap and they are not dorms, they are single rooms (sometimes with more than one bed), so I had privacy...
I laid out all my stuff and slept a bit more (I was really tired!). I got up at around 1pm and decided to go have lunch. Eugenia had recommended me a really great vegetarian place near my hostel. It was great! It was a buffet of a lot of healthy choices (finally!). I was so used to eating fried, fatty, unhealthy meals, that vegetables and brown bread sounded really good about now...
After lunch, I was meeting Eugenia in front of a famous ice cream shop called Dumbo. There, her father and her picked me up and drove us to the center plaza. We had an ice cream at another Dumbo location (I was craving ice cream), and then, Eugenia wanted to take me to the biggest Jesus statue in South America (33m tall, because Jesus lived until 33 years old). She had planned that we take the thing that skiers use to go up a mountain (don't know what it's called), but it was broken. So we had to climb 2000 steps to the top where Jesus was. This was the first time that I had to work so hard in the name of religion...
I was starting to get tired of steps. It seemed like that was all I was doing during this trip...climb stairs. Anyway, I had good company, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. We finally made it to the top and we went inside Jesus (to climb more stairs to his head or heart (not sure how high).
After my homeboy, Jesus, we walked to this bus stop (really far, we did a lot of walking that day). We waited for the bus, but then got impatient and took a taxi to her aunt's place (the parents of Jesli, a friend that Eric had put me in contact with). We got to the house and Jesli was in the middle of a presentation on dentitry. She is an orthodontist. After the presentation, I finally met Jesli and we talked for a bit. She is really a nice person (as nice as Eric said she was). I also talked with her family (all really nice people...good job Eric on meeting these people!). Eugenia's twin sister, Gabriela was also there, very sick though. I was a bit worried because I was just recovering from a terrible cold, and I did not want to catch another one...
Gabriela is studying to be a dentist, and I tld her about the possibilities in Quebec. She seemed really excited. I stayed a bit more at the house, but then it was time that we go out! After all, it was a Saturday night, and I hadn't partied in so long! Eugenia's father drove me back to my hostel to get changed, along with her little brother, Tommy, who was about 16 years old.
When I got out of the car, Tommy looked at me and told me to watch out with his sisters...it was so cute how protective he was. I told him not to worry. After an hour, Eugenia and Jesli picked me up from my hostel. We were going to meet Gabriela and another cousin at a bar to eat and drink before we went to the club. It was a really nice place and I tried this red drink called la pecera del amor. We played a really cool drinking game with dice. Although, Eugenia kept on losing and had to drink a lot...
After, I went with only Jesli and Eugenia to this place where we had to wait in line for really long. We got impatient so we went somewhere else. The next destination was the most happening club in Cochabamba. It cost 30 Bolivianos to get in. I found it really expensive, but if you think of it, it was only 4$...We stayed there for a bit, but the music was not that good so we went to another place. We kept on going from place to place until we settled for this place called "Secret" at 2am. By this time, I had no more money left on me so I was depending on Jesli (I thought to myself, she's a dentist, she must be rich...).
We partied there until 4am, and went back home. I had a lot of fun, and I think I was due for some partying...
