Today, I slept in until 11am. I was meeting Jesli and Eugenia along with their whole family at Hotel Emperador for brunch. I also was planning on changing hostels because apparently, when the taxi driver dropped me off yesterday, he told Eugenia that he just dropped me off in the most dangerous area of Cochabamba! I thought to myself, why did he wait until after he dropped me off!
I left my bag at the hostel and decided to search for another hostel after brunch. On my way to the hotel, I stopped to buy a salteña. I was hooked on this Bolivian treat! It was sooo good! When I got to the hotel. I was surprised how beautiful it was. There was a guy (one of Eugenia's cousins) playing on the piano and everything looked so rich looking (king of like the Queen Elizabeth reception in Montreal). There, I finally met Eugenia's mother, too.
It was a buffet and I got to try many traditional Bolivian meals. After brinch, I played a bit on the piano (I tried to impress the family). They all seemed to enjoy it, clapping after each of my amateurish pieces, but I do not know if they were just being polite...After brunch, Eugenia and I went to go look for an adequate, safe hostel for me. After we finally found one, we went to her father's place to meet the rest of the family again.
It was a long bus ride (I did not know how big Cochabamba was). There, one of her cousins picked us up and showed us around the neighbourhood. We arrived to Eugena's father's place and had beer and traditional Bolivian snacks. One of them was a dried meat that I did not like too much. It was really funny because Tommy was really good at folkloric Bolivian dancing and he tried to show me how to dance it. Afterwards, i tried to show him how to dance the crip walk (which looked similar), and everybody stopped talking and was looking at what I was doing. Jesli's father got involved and was trying to do the same thing, along with Gabriela. All of this dancing and family reminded me of my time in Lima with Mireilla's family. It was nice to feel this again, especially when you are on a trip, alone.
At around 11pm, Eugenia's mother, sister, aunt, and cousins were going back to LaPaz. I took the same taxi as them to go back to my hostel. I had a really great day, but tomorrow was my last day to visit Cochabamba...
