Finally arrived at the hotel, after an amazing journey here - the roads have no lane markings and as far as I can tell there are absolutely no rules about where in the road you should position your vehicle. Along with random cattle in the road, the occasional donkey and lots of pedestrians it makes for an interesting experience! A couple of times on the journey we collectively held our breath as we seemed to be playing a game of 'chicken' with the oncoming traffic.
We had a brief toilet stop on our journey and had our first encounter with a Kenyan toilet (read hole in the ground in a smelly cubicle with lots of wee on the floor.......). There was a lots of tip sharing in the queue - for those who are interested the recommended technique to employ is 'feet wide, squat low'...... Is this too much information?!
Later we stopped for a lunch of spaghetti and mince halfway to our hotel, conveniently at a spot where they sold anything you like carved from sandstone or wood...... I managed to resist the urge to buy anything!
We arrived at the hotel at about 3pm, got allocated rooms (I am sharing with Alyson and Gemma is with a lady called Suzie). Then we sorted out our bikes - my own saddle and pedals are now attached, along with my 'I Love my bike' bell!
We had a short cycle of about 2kms just to be sure the bikes were ok - we went to visit Baden-Powells grave and ttrn cycled back. There was a sneaky little hill on the way back that woke us all up a bit and reminded us why we are here!
After all freshening up we attended a briefing about the challenge and they answered all our questions whilst at the same time creating a whole lot more...... But it seems as though we are all up for the challenge and ready for whatever tomorrow brings.
Tomorrow we will be staying at the highest town in Kenya (today we are already higher than any point in the UK)
Other point of note: I have managed to get sun burnt already! During the bus journey from Nairobi to Nyeri my right arm (the one by the window) has caught the sun...... Factor 50 required tomorrow!!
We are going for dinner now and then hoping for a good nights rest before day 1 of proper cycling! Catch you tomorrow.....

Andy Dunnell Very informative Nic. Information just about right I'd say, but glad to see you resisted the temptation to provide photographic evidence of the facilities. My only useful piece of sporting advice received over the last thirty years came from an elderly lady at Warwick driving range - Cool head, loose pants! I pass it on as in the circumstances it may transfer to your sphere of activity. On with the motley. And X
