Wellington and Napier
Arrived in Wellington a day early on the ferry giving us more time on the North Island. We booked into a cheap hotel using lastminute.com and got a room for the night much nicer and cheaper than any of the hostels. Zoe very happy due to creature comforts!!
We really enjoyed Wellington. We went to the 'Te Papa Museum', which was huge. Spent ages there looking around lots of different aspects of New Zealand including geography/landscape, identity and social history/change, Mauri Culture and lot lots more. It gave us a much better understanding of New Zealand and the people here. The museum is a must if you make it to Wellington.
Also managed to fit in a trip up the famous Cable Car and a wander around the Botanic Gardens.
Finally, after all that culture and sensible behaviour we made the best decision of the day and went out to sample Welly's night-life. Went for great beer and classy live music in trendy Materhorn then hilarous 'anything goes' dancing in Good Luck Bar, both on Cuba Street a cool bohemien sector of the city. Good night with excellent attempts at scary Mauri faces!
Also made it Napier for a quick stop. Strange little place that was flattend in the 1930's by an earthquake and everything was rebuilt in Art Deco style. Check out the photos if you're into that!
Lake Taupo next...
