Southern Scenic Route
So, We did a quick stop in Dunedin to stock up on food supplies and of course a box of wine for those lonely evenings! Then it was on to the start of the Southern Scenic Route, a drive along the bottom of the South Island.
We went to Nugget Point (and saw rare 'Yellow-Eyed Penguins' and different Seals/Sealions playing on the rocks), a brilliant Cheese Factory (bought some smelly brie - not good in the campervan!!), and ended up staying the night at Purakaunui Falls. It was a great spot and we spent the evening drinking our wine, eating our cheese and listening to some music, all in the Camper...
Early, very early, next morning we wandered down to the waterfall and had a refreshing natural shower (bit dangerous due to the slippery nature of the rocks). It was great! Quick Banana Pancake Breakfast (whilst listening to Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson) then it was on to see Elephant Boulders (average), McLean Falls (worthwhile), Slope Point (most southerly point on mainland NZ), Riverton, Clifden Suspension Bridge before ending up for the night at Te Anau.
Whilst at Slope Point, Zoe realised that for just a few minutes we were the most southerly people on the whole of NZealand... What an achievement!! We also met up with a very boring couple from Bromley (where Nick's from) who took our photo and have promised to send it to us... Small world...
Staying in Te Anau tonight, so bye for now.
