So after our jungle trek we were booked in for another 5 nights in Chiang Mai.... we decided to chill the next day by the pool then check out the night bazaar, which was MAHOOOOOSIVE! Stalls everywhere selling everything from trousers to lanterns, from purses to pashminas, from flip flops to miniature tuk tuks made from empty beer cans! It was amazing. After about 20 minutes though we'd already bought too much so made a quick exit haha. As it was our first Friday night since being away we planned to meet our jungle friends at a local bar and ended up having 1 too many very strong cocktails! Me and Billy were the last ones standing but it's safe to say the next day was a write off!!
Luckily before this we'd booked onto a cooking course for the Sunday, so at half 9 we were picked up and taken to this Thai lanna style wooden house..... full of cooking stations and woks! We met the rest of our group and then shortly after were taken to the local market where we were given a tour, and collected what we needed for the afternoon. As we'd chosen to do the full day we had 6 dishes to make. We were given the veg to prepare first of all then over to the woks to fry! The first dish was a soup and it was sooooo watery! Not a fan. Then we made a curry and got to choose how spicy (or not in Billy's case) we wanted it. Mum you'll be proud as I tried something new in the form of cashew nuts and I love them.... so much so I cooked a chicken stir fry with them! The spring rolls I made next were my favourite and I will definitely be making them again.
It was such a good experience being able to try our hands at something that is so relevant to the Thai culture, and see how things are done over here. It was nice to be able to mix with other nationalities and travelers too. We will definitely be putting these recipes into practice when home so beware!! On our final day in Chiang Mai we visited the Illusion Arts Museum which was awesome.... all of the art was on the walls and 3D so standing in them we looked like we were there! We spent the whole afternoon taking photos and having a giggle, a day well spent. A little bit more time spent at the night bazaar, some packing and an early night... then off to Chiang Rai the next day!
